The Padma RiverAhough the distance between Dhaka and Faridpur towns is only 40 miles (64 km), the mighty river Padma divides the lltands of the two districts. The Calcutta-Dhaka or Dhaka-Calcutta buses cross the river Padma with buses carried in the barge. For Dhaka-Faridpur or Faridpur-Dhaka buses, one bus runs to Goalanda Ghat (now named differently but the reference to the name of Goalanda Ghat is still in existence) and another bus, after crossing the Padma River, runs from the ghats on the opposite banks to Faridpur or Dhaka as the case may be.
Prabhu Jagadbandhu used to travel between Faridpur and Dhaka via Nayaranganj using railway train between Dhaka and Narayanganj and steamer from Narayanganj to Faridpur during his time. Thus was established Prabhu Jagadbandhu Ashram on 1 Dhakeswari Mill at Narayanganj. Narayanganj is only 17 km southeast of Dhaka. So it is more convenient and faster to visit Prabhu Jagadbandhu Ashram at Narayanganj from Dhaka. The return trip from Narayanganj to Faridpur can still be made by steamer.
